The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Set in a dark vision of near future a terrifying reality TV show is taking place. Twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live event called The Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed. When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdee steps forward to take her younger sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. From Goodreads

The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins was a series of books that I had put off reading until recently. The idea of children killing each other was just too much for me to handle. However, with all the hype about the movie Catching Fire coming out, I thought I would read the first book to see why it was so popular. Once I finished the first book, I had to read the other two. I can't even really explain why the books are great. The basic idea of the games still horrifies me but the books were compelling, fast paced and well written.
